Paula Waggoner-Aguilar is a Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Texas CPA, with 24+ years of finance and accounting experience helping public and private companies develop, construct, startup, grow, change, and turnaround their investments in energy (oil & gas, oilfield, service verticals, chemicals, renewables, export, and design/construction of energy infrastructure), technology, and manufacturing. She has significant experience working alongside hard-driving entrepreneurs, family enterprises, senior c-suite executives, corporate boards, corporate investment committees, investors, and even a billionaire wildcatter.
Paula has built her career taking on the toughest challenges and finding creative solutions to confounding problems. She excels in chaos and transforming businesses. As an executive, she has successfully demonstrated she has a strong strategic, business, financial, and operational acumen.
Paula started working in the energy business in the 1990s in the oilfield in Latin America. Since then, she has held several senior leadership roles for Fortune 100 companies in finance, investor relations, financial planning and analysis, production planning, upstream commercial risk management, domestic and international controllership, technical accounting, and transaction advisory (greenfield development, acquisitions, divestitures, and proprietary derivatives). She has served as Vice President, Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Director of Investor Relations, Director of Financial Planning & Analysis, Interim CFO, Business Controller, Corporate Controller, Mexican Country Controller, among others, for publically traded US, European, and Anglo/Australian Global corporations, their joint ventures operating in the US and Latin America, and private companies. Some of the more notable energy companies Paula has worked for include Lewis Energy Group, Buckeye Partners, BHP Billiton Petroleum, GDF Suez (formerly Tractebel, now called Engie), Duke Energy International, Enron International, and Halliburton (formerly Dresser Industries). Paula is also an Ernst & Young Alumni.
Paula obtained her Masters in Tax (MST) from the University of North Texas and her Bachelors in Accounting (BBA) from the University of Texas at Arlington. She has also completed post-graduate studies in an employer-sponsored intensive "MBA type" program administered by INSEAD & Emory University. Being an Advanced Spanish speaker, she has enjoyed working on projects in 15+ countries.
Paula has received leadership awards as a CEO and entrepreneur and as a CFO for Private Companies. In addition, she was honored by several organizations for her expertise in Energy Finance and her professional efforts to promote women in energy and STEM careers for women. Paula is the co-founder of the Women’s Energy Network South Texas Chapter and served as the Founding President 2013-2015. In addition, she served on the Executive Advisory Board for Houston based Pink Petro (for-profit) from 2015-2018. Over the years, Paula has written industry articles that have been featured in Rigzone and Shale Oil & Gas Magazine.
